Open bite in children

It is a malocclusion without dental contact in the anterior part of the teeth.

An early diagnosis of this type of malocclusion is very important since it can be linked to bad habits such as:

  • Thumb sucking
  • Breathing from the mouth
  • Swallowing food with the tongue in between

If we find the etiological factor in time, the dental problem can be remitted and have a spontaneous correction just by eliminating that bad habit with the help of our Speech Therapist team.

If the problem of this malocclusion is not only due to a bad habit, but is associated with a skeletal “visil,” problem that manifests itself as the child grows, then it would be necessary to remove the habit and help with orthopaedic / orthodontic treatments to try to remit that malocclusion.

We must bear in mind that it is a problem that if it evolves and is not treated when it is a child, taking advantage of its growth, it can be so serious that its only solution is surgery.
